Review Sheet for the Final Exam, Fall 2015
Colorado State University, Pueblo
Math 207 — Matrix and Vector Algebra with Applications

Prior Material

The final exam is comprehensive, meaning that the material from all parts of the course will be covered, roughly in proportion to the course time we spent on it. Therefore it is important to review and be comfortable with all the material summaries in the review sheets for each of the course midterms, being Midterm I and Midterm II.

New Terminology

Since Midterm II, we have seen
  1. eigenstuff for a matrix, being the
    eigen- of a matrix
  2. the characteristic polynomial of a matrix
  3. Markov models, particularly

Part I of the Final

The first part of the final exam will be during our usual class time, in our usual classroom, on Wednesday, 28 October 2015.

The material in this first part will be from what was covered on the first midterm (see its review sheet), together with questions on determinants and cross products. Specifically, there will certainly be problems like

Part II of the Final

The second part of the final exam will be during our usual class time, in our usual classroom, on Friday, 30 October 2015.

The material in this first part will be from what was covered on the second midterm (see its review sheet), except nothing will ask [explicitly] about determinants or cross products. In addition, there will be problems on the material covered since the second midterm, for which see the list of subjects above on this page. Specifically, there will certainly be problems like

Rules for Taking Both Parts

Each part of the test will have more than 100 points worth of problems, although the expectation is that you should do about 100 of those. Therefore, each day pick enough problems to be worth 100 points about which you feel most confident. If there is still time when you are done with those, of course do more problems.

The total of your scores on both days will be your final exam grade, unless it is more than 200 in which case the excess will be kept as course extra credit and you will get 200 on the final.

You may — and indeed are expected to — bring a calculator to the final exam.

You may also, should you like, bring some notes to the final. Here are the details:

How to Prepare

Start out by reading the descriptions of problems for each part of the final, above. If there is anything that you have any hazy feeling about, go back and read that section of the book and your notes, and maybe do extra problems on that material.

Next, make sure you can do all assigned HW problems, all the mini- and maxiquizzes, and all of the problems from both midterms, without any trouble.

If all of that is really solid and you still have time ... maybe go for a walk? Read a good book? Learn to cook a soufflé? Do whatever you want, you are certainly prepared for your 207 final.
