Summer 2017 MAESTRO Program
CIS 291: Major Assignment 1

Major Assignment 1 for CIS 291 is to build your website.

The first step was done in class, when you signed up with Reclaim Hosting for your desired domain name.

The second step was also done in class, when you installed WordPress to have a tool which will help post your daily journal writing.

Third step is getting all of your journal entries out of your handwriting in your paper journal and onto your site as posts - most of those were done in class, as well.

Finishing this major assignment involves cleaning up and personalizing your site. What that means is that everyone should:

  1. Change the theme you are using.
  2. Replace any default images that might be part of your theme with images you made yourself, or which you found on the Internet.
  3. Change any default Pages which might be part of your theme - e.g., many [most?] themes have an About page which is where the author tells what their purpose is in making that website. Likewise, delete any unneeded extra Pages or Posts.
  4. Create an entirely new Page where you give a complete reference for every image you use on your site, so
  5. Customize any default menus/widgets/link lists, etc., that your theme may include, and make sure that somewhere on your site there are some useful links, such as to this page, to csupueblo, and to other sites you use.
  6. Make sure that you have an embedded image somewhere in at least one Page or Post on your site.
  7. Make sure that you have used stylistic enhancements (such as italics, bold, bullet or numbered lists, etc.) somewhere in one or more Pages or Posts on your site.
  8. When you "hand in" this assignment, send an email to your instructor (at jonathan@poritz.net) saying so, and which tells the name of the new theme you used.
