Review Sheet for Math Quiz 1, Maestro Summer Program 2016
Colorado State University, Pueblo

It would be a good idea to be comfortable with the problems from the math worksheets you did this week. It also makes sense to look over the class schedule/summary and make sure you understand the ideas mentioned there. In addition, here are things to know how to do:
  1. Know what it means for two triangles to be similar, how to check if that is true, and what that knowledge enables you to calculate.
  2. Know what the Pythagorean Theorem says — hypothesis and conclusion — and how to use it to compute the length of third side of a triangle when you know the lengths of two sides.
  3. What the Cartesian coordinate system is, how to find points with given coordinates or coordinates for given points.
  4. How to use the equation $y=mx+b$ of a line, including what are the slope and $y$-intercept, how to sketch a line, and how to find the intersection point of two lines.
  5. How to work with exponentials: meaning of $a^b$ and powers of powers.
  6. Applications of similar triangles, the Pythagorean Theorem and lines in appropriately chosen coordinate systems to solving problems about sizes and positions of things in space.
  7. Applications of linear models in situations which are not purely geometric, such as economics.
  8. Manipulating exponentials and applying them to simple models of exponential growth and decay, including appropriately choosing the base of the exponential and the initial condition.
